The NETBIOS computer name is limited to a maximum of 15 characters. Whilst the DNS host name does not share the same limit (it is limited to 63 characters as long as the FQDN remains smaller than 155 bytes), and an abbreviated 15 character NETBIOS name will be automatically generated, it can cause problems to have the NETBIOS and DNS host names with different values.
